End of 3rd Term & Report Card Information
The last day of 3rd Term is March 8.  Report cards will be ready and available to review in Infinite Campus after 4:00 p.m. on March 15.  Directions on how to view your child's report card will be sent via email on March 15.

Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) Testing

The Illinois Assessment of Readiness assessments will be given March 12-14.  The following are key points regarding our testing days:

  • We will have special schedules on the above testing dates.  Please try to avoid taking your child out of school on these days.  If a student misses school, make-up sessions will be scheduled.

  • All students need earbuds/headphones for the tests.  The headphones need to be wired since chromebook bluetooth capability may not be reliable on these days.

  • Students need to make sure they come to school each day with their chromebook fully charged.

  • Students will need a book to read after they complete each test.

  • Please ensure your child gets a good night sleep and eats a nutritious breakfast on these days.  Research shows that these are two important factors that assist students in doing their best.

KHMS PTO Happenings
The PTO is getting ready to host their annual St. Patty's Game Day on Friday, March 15th from 2:45-4:15 p.m.  Students can play games, such as Human Hungry Hippos, floor hockey, badminton, and so much more.  It is $5 to enter or $3 if a student is wearing green.

The next No Cook Knight is Thursday, March 21st at Open Range in Sugar Grove from 5:00-10:00 p.m.  Make sure to mention the KHMS PTO.

Yearbook Final Call

Due to the number of last minute orders for the yearbook, we are keeping the website open for a few more days.  Yearbook orders will be taken through February 7th.  This is the last chance to order a yearbook, so please don't delay.  At the end of the year, there may not be extra yearbooks to purchase.  Don't take the chance of missing out and order today.

What is MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports)

Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is designed to provide interventions for students who require additional support and acceleration of standards for those who comprehend faster than their peers.

Students will receive their typical instruction from their teachers and then participate in a formative assessment or check-in to ensure their understanding of the subject.  Suppose it is determined that a student needs additional support.  In that case, MTSS provides an intervention ranging from one day to a few weeks in addition to regular teaching, remedying any shortcomings in their learning.

Response to Intervention (RTI) was limited to students for mediation, but MTSS also allows students to receive intervention for acceleration.  Intervention provides students the opportunity to excel beyond their current grade level.

MTSS is for academic and social-emotional support, and the length of intervention is personalized to students based on their needs.  Interventions happen in the classroom so that they can be closely aligned with the curriculum.  In most cases, a shift has been made to in-class co-teaching rather than RTI by removing the student from the class at the K-8 grade spans.

For K-8 grade spans, the first level of intervention would be for an interventionist to go into the classroom and support the student throughout their given lesson.  In those same grade spans, students are temporarily pulled from the class for more intensive interventions to participate in small groups or one-on-one for more personalized intervention.

MTSS will give our students the support they need to succeed academically and socially.  Please visit Kaneland Connects for more details about the Kaneland CUSD #302 strategic plan.

5Essentials Survey

All students and staff will take the 5Essentials Survey in the month of February.  Parents can also take the survey (see link below).  The 5 Essentials Survey asks students about their typical experiences in school, providing us with helpful information for school improvement plans.  Students will take the survey in February during homeroom.

Parents are also encouraged to take the 5Essnetials Survey.  Click here to learn more about the 5Essentials Survey.

Harter Jazz Band Earns Prestigious Honor

The KHMS Jazz Band submitted an application last spring to perform at the annual Illinois Music Educators Association State Conference and we are pleased to announce that our application was accepted.  Of the numerous applications, KHMS was chosen over all the other ensembles in the State of Illinois at the middle school level.  They will perform on January 25th on the main stage at the Peoria Civic Center.  What an honor!

Being chosen to showcase our jazz band at such a significant event is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and exceptional musical abilities of our students and their director, Mrs. Andersen.  The KHMS Jazz Band's performance at this event is a direct reflection of the commitment to excellence our learning community has embraced with our music programs.

On behalf of Kaneland Harter Middle School and Kaneland CUSD 302, congratulations to our amazing jazz band!

Yearbook Information

If you are interested in ordering your child a yearbook, see below for details.  Orders will be closed on January 29th, so don't wait to order your son/daughter a yearbook for this school year.
